New Adult Faith Formation Offerings
Linda Bixby will be facilitating a study on the “Lives of the Patriarchs” and you are invited to attend this in-depth study on the lives of the four patriarchs of our faith: Abraham. Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. We will focus on their struggles to be good husbands, fathers, neighbors, and how to walk in accord with their God. Bring your Bible and a folder to hold weekly handout sheets. Through the lens of the Jewish interpretation, we will learn new profound insights about our founding fathers and mothers. This study will begin at 9:30am on Sunday, April 7 in the choir room.
Tom St. Clair will be facilitating a book study on the book “The Lord’s Prayer” by Adam Hamilton. Most Christians know the Lord's Prayer by heart. We pray it often, at different times and in different settings. We remember it as the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words, what we ask of God each time we pray it? When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them this prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord's Prayer to be a museum piece, framed and placed on a mantel or in a display case. It was Jesus teaching God's people, through his disciples, how to pray. In The Lord's Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught, pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton guides us to really know--and really pray--the Lord's Prayer. He explores each of its rich lines and their meaning in the Bible, illuminating what we ask of God and what we ask of ourselves through its words. And he teaches us how to use it as a pattern for our own prayer life. This study begins at 9:30am on Sunday, April 7 in the conference room.
Special Request from Spring Hill Elementary
Spring Hill Elementary School is in need of gently used or new children’s sneakers (sizes 1, 2, and 3). If you can help with this, please see Marty Hodgkins for your donations or for any further details.
SHES Food for Thought Initiative
As you may know, SHUCC has been providing healthy snacks to Spring Hill Elementary School for some time now. Marty Hodgkins has been our liaison with SHES and she is requesting the following:
Large boxes/containers of cereal (e.g. Honey Nut Cheerios)
Large boxes of snack items (e.g. pretzels, goldfish, animal crackers)
These are easier for the teachers to distribute to students and more cost efficient than individually packaged items. These may be dropped off in the Food For Thought bin next to the Loaves and Fishes Collection bin.
Spring Hill Elementary School Book Drive
The Community Outreach Ministry is once again partnering with Spring Hill Elementary School to read to first graders. Through your generous donations, each child will then receive a book from their friends at Spring Hill UCC to encourage summer reading. For some of these children, it is the first book of their very own! These hardback books are quality literature and are written at various reading levels.
Here’s how you can participate:
Envelopes are available on the book display table in the lobby for your financial donations.
Cash donations are always accepted.
If you write a check, please mark “Book Fund” in the memo line.
Altar Flowers
If you would like to provide altar flowers on a Sunday(s), please let us know by signing up on the bulletin board in the administration hallway of the Worship Center. Please note that you are invited to bring any flower/flowers that you wish. These can be store bought, florist arranged, or even from your own personal garden. The church office will no longer be ordering the altar flowers each week and it will be the responsibility of the individual to order/purchase the flowers. This is a change from how we have done this in the past that the Worship Ministry feels will provide deeper personalization of our altar flowers, and will be less cost prohibitive as the cost of the altar flowers from the florist were continuing to increase. If you have any questions, please contact Gloria Bulau or Betsy Schalkham.
